Do not put guppies straight into your tank. Before putting guppies into your tank, place the sealed bag into tank water for 15 minutes so the temperatures equalize. Next, open the bag and clip it onto the inside of your tank and fill the bag halfway up with your tank water. After 15 minute, you can put your fish into the tank.
Guppies need a tank that’s at least 10 gallons. Give them some decorations and tank mates and they’ll love their new home. Guppies are a great addition to a community fish tank as they get along with other fish well.
We recommend a sponge filter as they are small, quiet, easy and wont suck up guppy fry.
Guppies do best with a heater, 64.6 - 82.4°F (18 - 28°C) and a pH level of 7-8.
Guppies like all sorts of food like flakes and pellets. They especially enjoy frozen food like blood worms and brine shrimp but especially love freshly hatched brine shrimp. Live brine shrimp is a great option for babies as they have smaller mouths and cant eat bigger foods. We recommend feeding once or twice a day. Feed three times a day for babies as they will grow faster and stronger.
Guppies are live-bearers, they give birth to around 7-20 fry at a time. Watch out because sometimes guppies eat there babies. To prevent this, you can put the pregnant mother into a breeder box to shelter the babies. After a day or two you can take the mom out of the breeder box and put them back in the tank. Keep the fry in the breeder box until they're a bit bigger. Male guppies take 6 months from birth until they can reproduce, while females only take 3 months. Colors will pop once they get older.
Guppies go well with Java moss as they like a place to hide from time to time. Java moss is recommended if you are expecting babies as it provides a place for them to hide while they grow up. Java moss is a great accessory to a fish tank and pairs well with guppies. your fish will thank you.
